The Windows PC version of last year's Xbox Live Arcade update of the original Spelunky will be available Aug. 8 on Steam and GOG.com, developer Mossmouth announced yesterday.
The studio announced the PC port last month and said it would be released this summer. Mossmouth is developing the PC version in-house, while the upcoming PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita ports, also due out this summer, are in development at port specialist Blit Game Studios.
Spelunky was originally released on PC as a freeware game in September 2009; that version is now called Spelunky Classic and will stay free on the game's website. The Xbox Live Arcade version, which launched to critical acclaim just over a year ago, features an updated art style and other changes that will be incorporated into the upcoming PC, PS3 and PS Vita releases.
