Payday 2 dev diary explains what sets it apart

A new video from 505 Games features Payday 2 game director David Goldfarb discussing the new elements that sets the game apart from other shooters and the original 2011 Payday: The Heist.

Payday 2 has more RPG elements than the first game, says Goldfarb, and the developers wanted to give players more options. This includes the ability to customize the players' masks and weaponry as well as the option to try and tackle heists more stealthily rather than going in with guns blazing.

Ultimately, says Goldfarb, Payday 2 is about providing a heist experience as players try to climb the criminal ladder with their friends in co-op play. "Sometimes you're going to want to get away with all the bags; sometimes you're going to want to make more money," says Goldfarb, "[but] sometimes you're just content to get away with your life. That's the cool thing in Payday 2, that you can make those decisions."

Payday 2 comes out on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC on August 13.
