Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus gameplay demo shows off bizarre weapons

The five-minute gameplay video for Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus features Insomniac Games creative director, Brian Allgeier, as he shows off the creative weapons featured in the sixth Ratchet & Clank title for the PlayStation 3.

Allgeier, creative director on Tools of Destruction and A Crack in Time, demonstrates how players can manipulate gravity with gadgets and weapons to solve puzzles and dispatch enemies. As outlined previously on the PlayStation Blog, gravity is a central theme of Into the Nexus. For instance, the Grav-Tether allows Ratchet to create gravity beams between targets and use them to travel across obstacles, such as chasms.

The Gamescom demo video also demonstrates other non-gravity themed weapons, such as the Winterizer. The weapon will give players varying destructive results when used against different enemies, and as the weapon upgrades, it will drop presents that will award health and ammo.

Into the Nexus continues the story arc of the Future series of Ratchet & Clank games and will be released at retail and via the PlayStation Network later this year for $29.99.
