Retro shooter Gunslugs heading to PlayStation Vita

Old-school sideways scrolling shooter Gunslugs is coming to PS Vita, with a release in October.

The intense Ouya, iOS and Android game was originally developed by Orange Pixel, with Abstraction Games handling the PS Vita version, which it will also publish. That company's porting credits include the Nintendo DS version of Cut the Rope, PS Vita and PlayStation 3 releases of Hotline Miami and the PSP and PS3 versions of Angry Birds.

Leaderboards, cloud saving, and Trophies are being added to the PS Vita game, which harks back to the golden era of fast-paced, tough-to-beat sideways action.

"We're all really excited about the tremendous potential of the PS Vita and its unique input systems," wrote Abstraction's creative director Tj'ièn Twijnstra on the PlayStation Blog. "The more traditional, natural feeling of the physical buttons, combined with the amazing OLED display, make the idea of bringing Gunslugs over a no-brainer from our perspective. We believe in the appeal of Gunslugs and the fact that it belongs on the PS Vita so much that we decided to publish the game ourselves."
