Destiny dev diary discusses matchmaking, super powers and players getting lost

A new behind-the-scenes video for Bungie's upcoming "shared-world shooter" Destiny discusses how the developers hope players can get lost in the wilderness.

What design director Joseph Staten believes most players will find striking about Destiny is the opportunity to run into players in the world, because most action games don't enable that facet of gameplay. To that end, the developers have incorporated seamless matchmaking into the game, which will put players in the same world as friends and other adventurers without any break in the action.

Characters have three weapon slots: one for a general all-purpose assault rifle, one for a more specialized weapon of the player's choosing, and a "heavy" slot for dishing out lots of damage very quickly. The video also talks about the players' combat powers which allow them to do things like jump in the air and hurl a fireball.

Destiny is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One some time in 2014. Check out our in-depth preview of the game from this year's E3.
