Escape Goat 2 delayed, new date coming after PAX Prime

Michael McWhertor is a journalist with more than 17 years of experience covering video games, technology, movies, TV, and entertainment.

Magical Time Bean's challenging puzzle platformer Escape Goat 2 won't make its previously announced release date of Sept. 10, according to an update from game designer Ian Stocker. Designing the game's map, Stocker says, is to blame for the delay, which he explains at length in his development journal.

The map system, which differs from the original Escape Goat's structure, "hadn’t quite been fully nailed down," Stocker wrote. Designing the map, preparing for PAX Prime and the day-to-day business of running the studio slowed the game's development. Rather than meet the Sept. 10 date at the expense of playtesting and promotion, Escape Goat 2 has been pushed back.

Stocker says he's hesitant to provide a new release date for the PC game, at least until after PAX has passed.

"It would be great to keep it within September, but that’s just an aspiration at this point, not a guarantee," he said.

"My apologies to everyone who preordered hoping to unwrap a shiny new Escape Goat 2 download on September 10. Please contact me if you want a refund. I’m hoping you stick around though, because this game is going to be a lot of fun."

Escape Goat 2 will be featured at PAX Prime this weekend as part of the PAX 10.
