Guild Wars 2 welcomes back Super Adventure Box retro dungeon

Starting Sept. 3, Guild Wars 2 players will be able to dive back into the retro-style 8-bit Super Adventure Box dungeon — which was previously added to the game for a limited time in April — developer ArenaNet announced today.

Super Adventure Box — with its pixelated 3D graphics and retro old-school background music — has been expanded upon for its second release, and will include new zones, modes and rewards for players to earn. The dungeon will go live with Guild Wars 2's next update.

New events include a showdown with a Storm Wizard after a challenging journey through the World 2 zone's Rapids, Pain Cliffs and Storm Top areas. The Super Adventure Box update will also add Tribulation mode, a new "ridiculously difficult mode," according to a press statement, that can be played in both the World 1 and 2 zones. Players can also get their hands on a new Super Weapon skin set and special King Toad and Storm Wizard weapons, as well as a mini replica of the Princess Miya.

Additional features included in the update will allow players to obtain new materials and recipes for ascended weapons and a new skill cap of 500 for the Artificer, Huntsman and Weaponsmith crafting disciplines. Players who hit the 500 cap will become Grandmaster Crafters. Legendary weapons will also be getting a stat boost and the Magic Find ability will now become a bonus applicable to all characters on one player's account.

Players can get a first look at the new incarnation of Super Adventure Box next Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 3 p.m. ET on the Guild Wars 2 Twitch channel.
