Assassin's Creed 4 Gamescom demo explains how to take a fort

A new gameplay video for Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag features game director Ashraf Ismail narrating a battle to take a fort early in the game's progression.

In the demo, which debuted at Gamescom in Germany last week, pirate assassin Edward Kenway uses the Jackdaw's mortar cannons to take down the fort's towers; they must be manually aimed, making them difficult to use in ship-to-ship combat but perfect for firing upon stationary targets. As this is an early-game fight, the fort only has two towers to destroy before the fort itself can be assaulted, though there are two ships defending it as well.

Upon destroying the towers, Edward leaves the Jackdaw to seek out and assassinate the fort's commander. When he is dead, the fort has been taken and will now fire upon Edward's enemies instead.

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag hits PlayStation 3, Wii U and Xbox 360 on Oct. 29 in North America and Nov. 1 in Europe. The PlayStation 4 version will launch aside the console on Nov. 15 and 29 in America and Europe, respectively, with Xbox One and Windows PC versions to come.
