Disney sees a decline in its games business in fiscal results

The Walt Disney Company noted a loss in its games division for its third quarter earning ending June 29, 2013 - and it's the only business segment that showed an operating loss over the first nine months of the fiscal year.

However it's in the three months ending June 29 that Disney Interactive saw an ongoing decline in both revenues and operating losses compared to the previous year. Sales for the company were down by seven percent to $183 million, with operating losses rising from $42 million to $56 million. According to Disney, this is the result of a lack of new console releases during this quarter, along with a decline in the number of social gaming users. Both of these were partially offset by a rise in the company's Japanese mobile efforts.

Disney did not share its company projections, although the company will likely see a rise in sales following the release of Disney Infinity on Aug. 18 when it hits Wii, Wii U, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC.
