Gamers in the U.K. who place new pre-orders for a PlayStation 4 are no longer guaranteed to receive it on launch day, Sony confirmed to Eurogamer.
According to the report, a message stating pre-orders placed after Aug. 6 are not guaranteed to be honored by the console's launch was sent to a number of U.K. retailers, including Amazon and ShopTo.
"Sony have confirmed all PlayStation 4 pre-orders placed from Aug. 6 will now not be guaranteed for launch," reads the message posted on ShopTo. "You can still pre-order PS4 with us in case we receive cancellations and can fulfill your order for launch."
Eurogamer reports ShopTo has confirmed the message applies to all European retailers.
"Please note — due to high demand, orders placed for the PlayStation 4 console from Aug. 6 may be received after release date," reads a similar statement posted to Amazon. "We will ship orders as soon as we receive sufficient inventory."
Currently the PS4 has no set launch date, but is expected to launch worldwide this holiday season.
