Unreal Engine 4 demo shows off an easier way to layer materials

A new developer diary from Epic Games demonstrates the use of Unreal Engine 4 in creating layered materials, a method of layering textures in-engine.

Unreal Engine 4 will allow developers to layer materials to create specular, bump and normal mapping, or alternatively to add shader, shadow and lighting effects. The result is a way of layering textures that simplifies the traditional method used by designers.

Unreal Engine 4 was revealed to the public last year, and will include a number of new processing tools, visual effects and an easy-use scripting process.
