X Rebirth trailer explores an astoundingly detailed space city

A new developer diary for space sandbox title X Rebirth shows the level of detail in the game's environments.

The space cities and factories in X Rebirth are all made up of smaller buildings and components, according to the video, and players can fly around and through them, land on them, and even get out of their ships to walk around inside or crawl through repair ducts.

More importantly, however, all of the little pieces are "real" in terms of how the game's world functions. Stations manufacture parts that are transported by ships; blowing up a part of a station or destroying a cargo ship will affect the economy in turn.

X Rebirth is expected to launch some time in 2013 for Windows PC.
