The Stanley Parable, Davey Wreden's first-person, story-driven exploration game, will be released in October for Windows PC and Mac, the developer announced on the game's official blog.
Formerly known as The Stanley Parable: HD Remix, The Stanley Parable is a remake of Wreden's interactive fiction mod he created in 2011. Players take on the role of Stanley, a white-collar office worker who must search for clues as to the whereabouts of his missing co-workers. Players are guided by a narrator, who they can either obey or ignore.
Speaking to Polygon last month, Wreden views The Stanley Parable as a relationship between the player and narrator, where the two entities are "fumbling in the dark," trying to dominate each other.
"At a certain point, you make an action and the game reacts," Wreden told Polygon. "Throws back to you and says ‘what now?'"
"People take a lot more pride in going against the narrator," Wreden said. "It reflects a stronger sense of personality."
Approved for distribution on Valve's Steam service in October of last year, a specific release date was not revealed in the latest announcement. Wreden is not sure of The Stanley Parable's price point at this stage, according to his Twitter account.
