The next game in Epic Games and Chair Entertainment's popular Infinity Blade series is coming to iOS on Sept. 18.
Chair Entertainment co-founder and creative director Donald Mustard took the stage at today's Apple event to unveil "the epic conclusion of the Infinity Blade trilogy" running on the newly announced iPhone 5S, which Mustard said is "five times faster than the iPhone 5." The game will utilize the new OpenGL ES 3.0 graphics library spec, bringing a new level of fidelity to the Infinity Blade series, including "lens flares that would make JJ Abrams proud."
Infinity Blade 3 will feature two playable characters: the warrior Siris and "stealthy female warrior-thief" Isa, each with their own combat styles and collectable weapons and items. Also new is a hub called the Hideout, which serves as a "base of operations where [players] discover the interactive world map and unlock all-new allies to join their cause."
According to the official Infinity Blade Twitter account, players will battle a large dragon that serves as a persistent enemy throughout the game.
Infinity Blade 3 will be available in the App Store alongside the new iPhone 5S, which features a new 64-bit A7 chip. Epic Games announced a Sept. 18 launch date for Infinity Blade 3, the same day Apple releases iOS 7 officially. The game will be priced at $6.99 and be compatible with the new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPad 4, iPad 3, iPad 2, iPad mini, iPod touch 5 and iPod touch 4.
Infinity Blade 3 was outed in August by a Chair employee's resume. The first Infinity Blade was released for iOS in Dec. 2010, with a sequel hitting the following year.
