Small World 2 now available on iPad

Small World 2, the sequel to Days of Wonder's popular iPad version of its own board game, is now available on iPad for $9.99, the company announced today.

It is also available as a free update to all owners of the original Small World, which launched alongside the first iPad in April 2010. Days of Wonder has sold more than 650,000 copies of Small World — both the physical board game and its digital translation — worldwide, with total sales of more than $20 million.

Days of Wonder was already working on Small World 2 on iPad when it launched a Kickstarter campaign for Windows PC and Android versions earlier this year. The studio ended up raising nearly $400,000 from backers, more than 260 percent of its $150,000 goal.

"We made a number of unconventional decisions to improve the game for Small World 2, the largest of which was turning to our fans for input," said Eric Hautemont, CEO of Days of Wonder, in a press release today. "Their incredible feedback was instrumental in helping us develop a great sequel."

Small World 2 includes 20 new races and powers that can be mastered through in-app purchases of the Cursed! and Grand Dames expansions; in addition, the Be Not Afraid expansion is also available for the first time digitally. The game supports as many as five players in pass-and-play, local wireless (Bluetooth or Wi-Fi), real-time online or asynchronous online modes. As long as at least one player in a multiplayer game owns an expansion, everybody can play the content within it.

Other new features include Facebook and Game Center integration, and a dedicated multiplayer server that allows games to switch seamlessly from real-time to asynchronous, turn-based play.

The PC and Android versions of Small World 2 are scheduled to be available later this year. You can see three screenshots of the iPad version above.
