Rise of the Hutt Cartel now free to Star Wars: The Old Republic subscribers

Starting today, subscribers to Star Wars: The Old Republic will gain no-extra-charge access to digital expansion Rise of the Hutt Cartel.

BioWare is releasing its Game Update 2.4 on Oct. 1, featuring new player-vs-player arenas and "The Dread War" story missions. The EA-owned company also announced BitRaider streaming for SW:TOR, allowing smaller initial downloads, and therefore faster access for new players.

Rise of the Hutt Cartel, released for the free-to-play game in April as a $9.99 add-on, offers access to the planet Makeb, five new levels of missions and an increased level cap to 55. As part of the offer, active subscribers who have already purchased the expansion will receive various goodies through in-game mail.

"We are constantly looking to improve the gameplay experience," said BioWare Austin's Jeff Hickman. "We're finding fresh new ways for players to try it out while offering new, higher-level content to our existing community."
