Hyper Light Drifter explores futuristic, ruined world

Hyper Light Drifter by Alex Preston (aka Heart Machine) is an exploration and combat game seeking funding on Kickstarter. It's been created with the help of Beau Blyth (Samurai Gunn) with soundtrack by Rich Vreeland (aka Disasterpeace) whose previous work includes Fez.

The 2D RPG features a drifter with a sprite companion, exploring a ruined world, along with all its discoverable technologies. It's due for release in 2014 for Windows PC initially, and is seeking minimum funding of $27,000, by Oct. 12.

"Visions for this game have been fluttering in my skull for ages," wrote Preston in the game's Kickstarter pitch. "Something dark and fantastic, with giant forests to navigate, huge floating structures to explore, deep crumbling ruins to loot, massive throngs of enemies to rend, and behemoths to overcome.

"It plays like the best parts of A Link to the Past and Diablo, lightning fast combat, more mobility, an array of tactical options, more numerous and intelligent enemies, and a larger world with a twisted past to do it all in."
