Console games can sometimes be a "lower risk" for indie developers, Retro City Rampage developer Brian Provinciano said in a recent GDC China Independent game summit talk, Gamasutra reports.
"I've been very successful in console, and I haven't touched mobile yet," Provinciano said. "I feel in many cases that console games can be a lower risk."
He pointed out that console games have higher price points, players expect a higher quality product and that developers tend to have "more control over launch promotion." On the other hand, he also said that he spent a third of Retro City Rampage's three-year development cycle on "everything else, from business and production, to contracts, insurance, office space, the list goes on."
