NBA 2K14 developer Visual Concepts is bringing back MyTeam, the digital trading card mode that debuted in NBA 2K13, and the studio explained how it's upgrading the mode this year in a new developer diary.
Similarly to the "Ultimate Team" modes in various EA Sports titles, MyTeam lets you assemble fantasy teams by buying packs of digital trading cards with in-game currency and real money.
Visual Concepts is expanding the modes of play within MyTeam for NBA 2K14, adding tournaments in which players can compete with different tiers of cards (bronze, silver, gold and the new sapphire). You'll also be able to customize your team with elements like a name, location and logo, before taking it online in head-to-head matches with friends, another new part of MyTeam. And finally, leaderboards will give uber-competitive users a new goal to strive for.
NBA 2K14 launches Oct. 1 on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC, PlayStation 4 on Nov. 15 and Xbox One on Nov. 22. For more on the game, check out our detailed preview of its LeBron: Path to Greatness mode.
