Freeplay Awards 2013 finalists revealed, include Framed, Wander, The Paper Fox

The list of finalists for the 2013 Freeplay Independent Games Festival's Freeplay Awards have been announced, focusing solely on Australian developers and games for the first time.

Loveshack's narrative-based panel shifting game, Framed, has been nominated for four awards, including Technical Innovation and Design. Kumobius's Duet and by The Voxel Agents' Puzzle Retreat are nominated for two awards each. Loki Davison's non-combat, massively multiplayer game Wander is up for a Narrative award. The collaborative exploration-focused title is headed for release on the PlayStation 4.

A Non-Digital category has been introduced this year, with finalists consisting of Handwritten Games' narrative-based card game Outside These City Walls and board game Halfling Heist, and Paul Sztajer's time travel board game Time Fight.

The Freeplay Awards 2013 judges include Polygon's senior reporter Tracey Lien, QWOP creator Bennett Foddy, along with artist Cherie Davidson and writers Brendan Keogh and Sally Williams.

The theme for this year's annual independent developer-focused festival is "Volume of Revolution" and will be held Sept. 28-29 at the State Library of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia. The Freeplay Awards ceremony is slated for 29 Sept. and will be hosted by comedian Dave Callan. Tickets for the conference's full program, along with the chance to see Erin Robinson's and Steve Swink's keynotes, are now available from the official website. Conference tickets include access to the awards night, with door tickets for the public also available.
