Apple will hold a press event at its Cupertino, Calif., headquarters on Sept. 10, the company announced today with invitations to members of the media.
The event will begin at 1 p.m. ET. Apple is expected to unveil next-generation iPhone hardware during the show, with rumors centering on two different models: a purported iPhone 5S, which would be Apple's next flagship phone, and a low-cost plastic model known as the iPhone 5C.
At a keynote address during its annual Worldwide Developers Conference this past June, Apple announced iOS 7, the next version of its mobile operating system. The update will include a redesign of Game Center, as well as support for third-party game controllers, a feature that could have major ramifications for the game industry. Apple has been running a beta of iOS 7 for months, and could announce the release date for its final version during the upcoming iPhone event.
