A Kickstarter for the sequel to '80s fighting game River City Ransom (pictured) is due to launch on Sept. 9.
The officially licensed follow-up to Technos NES original is being developed by Conatus Creative, which was previously trading under the name Combit Studios. Founder Daniel Crenna explained to Polygon that the name-change was due to trademark proximity issues with another brand.
River City Ransom 2 will combine role-playing elements and fantasy combat, but with greater open-ended opportunities than the original.
"I think a lot of people got into the sand box element of the first one," Crenna told Polygon, back in May. "You can play baseball if two people grab a baseball bat and a rock and you throw the rock at that person. Our entire mode of operation here is to do what the original did and make it better."
River City Ransom 2 for Windows PC is due for release in 2014.
