Microsoft begins accepting devs into its indie initiative this week

Microsoft will begin sending out responses to developers who applied for its Independent Developers @ Xbox program this week, the company's independent developer initiative, according to the program's official Twitter account.

The ID@Xbox program is slated to roll-out alongside Microsoft's next-generation Xbox One console when the hardware launches on Nov. 22. Developers are encouraged to apply for the program with those accepted as registered Xbox One developers receiving two development kits for free. At an unspecified post-launch date, as part of Microsoft's "longer term" plan, the program will eventually allow developers to use retail Xbox One consoles as developer kits and self-publish on the next-gen hardware.

Microsoft's portfolio director for digital games Chris Charla confirmed during PAX Prime that the ID@Xbox program will support free-to-play, microtransactions and premium pricing models.
