Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, Kojima Productions' upcoming open-world stealth game, will allow players to create their own missions with tablets and smartphones, the Official PlayStation Magazine U.K. reports.
Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima said that the decision to put Snake in an open-world environment came from a desire to use mobile devices with the game, functionality he hinted at last year at PAX Prime.
"All the freedom is up to you and there are no rules [like] the linear games in the past," Kojima said. "You can use smartphones and tablets to interact with the world. That's why we did an open world, because we thought about all these interactions on multiple devices."
The game's player-created mission abilities are built on top of that functionality.
"Using tablets and smartphones, you can also enjoy [Metal Gear Solid 5] and create user-generated missions within the world," Kojima said.
Metal Gear Solid 5 is headed to PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One at a unannounced date.
