The Commodore 64 version of Origin Systems' Ultima 4: Quest of the Avatar has been ported to iOS and released for free by U.K. developer Elite Systems.
Ultima 4 places players in the fantasy realm of Britannia, ruled by Richard Garriott's long-running in-game representative Lord British, and sets them on a quest to master the principles of eight heroic virtues. The classic RPG recently received a mobile spiritual successor in the form of Ultima Forever: Quest for the Avatar, a modern, free-to-play remake from EA Mythic.
According to the C64 version's description on the iTunes App Store, Elite Systems' port was made free-of-charge "courtesy of Mythic studios." The game's main menu also promotes Ultima Forever on the App Store, implying that the C64 version's release is a cross-promotional effort for EA Mythic's game.
