Broken Age available to backers, hitting Steam Jan. 28

Act 1 of Broken Age will launch on Valve's digital distribution platform on Jan. 28 for Windows PC, Mac and Linux with Act 2 launching as a free update later in the year.

Those interested can pre-purchase Broken Age for $22.49 (normally $24.99) or grab the game and its soundtrack for $26.99 ($29.99). Both offerings are 10 percent off until Jan. 28. The first act of the game was released to backers today. Double Fine Productions revealed via its Kickstarter blog yesterday that its crowdfunded adventure game will no longer head to Steam Early Access, opting for a regular release on the platform with a Season Pass for Act 2.

The title centers on two teenagers, Vella Tartine and Shay Volta, who live parallel lives. Shay resides in a wandering spaceship while Vella lives in a village whose inhabitants have a penchant for sacrificing young women to a sea monster. Players have the ability to switch between their respective adventures throughout the game. To learn more about the characters, watch the pair of trailers above and below introducing Vella and Shay's stories.

It was announced last month that Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood features in the cast of Broken Age as Shay, starring alongside Wil Wheaton, Jack Black, Jennifer Hale and Adventure Time creator Pendleton Ward. To learn more about the game, be sure to check out our hands-on preview as Vella and chat to studio founder Tim Schafer.
