Valve paid $10.2M to Dota 2 and Team Fortress 2 item creators

New statistics from Valve reveal the company paid a total of $10,215,796 to 661 in-game item creators over the course of 2013.

The company's sponsorship of user-generated content, including Team Fortress 2's Robotic Boogaloo, has led to contributors for titles Dota 2 and Team Fortress 2 receiving earnings of more than $15,000 each on average, or roughly $4,300 for each of the 2,349 items produced.

Over 90 percent of items in Team Fortress 2 are now fan-made, according to Valve, with over 500 million items sold to players so far.

Valve's reveal took place during this year's annual Steam Dev Days which ran from Jan. 15 to Jan. 16.
