Calling 2013 a record-breaking year for the charity, Child's Play announced it raised more than $7.6 million last year through events and community-driven fundraisers in order to benefit children in a network of hospitals and domestic violence shelters.
The charitable haul represents substantial growth for the 10-year-old nonprofit. In 2012, Child's Play raised $5 million, while 2013's amount is more than the cumulative total for the organization's first six years. The lifetime total raised through Child's Play and its supporters is now more than $25 million.
Last year, Child's Play expanded its network of giving beyond hospitals. It began a pilot program in Washington state that provided games to domestic violence shelters, a program the charity plans to begin expanding nationwide in 2014.
Child's Play holds two official events annually — Child's Play Invitational Golf Tournament and the Child's Play Dinner Auction — with the bulk of events handled by its community.
