Watch the first three minutes of The Last of Us: Left Behind

Naughty Dog shared the opening minutes of Left Behind today, the upcoming add-on content for The Last of Us that will give players a look at Ellie's life prior to the main game's events and her relationship with another character formative to her development.

Left Behind follows Ellie and her best friend, an older girl named Riley introduced in The Last of Us: American Dreams comic series. The DLC will explore their friendship and add "intriguing new wrinkles" to how players currently understand the relationship between Ellie and Joel, according to a post on the PlayStation Blog.

The studio also shared a second video (below) featuring interviews with Ashley Johnson and Yaani King, the voice actresses for Ellie and Riley. Johnson notes that Riley is Ellie's first major friendship, and players who have finished The Last of Us already have a good idea of how the pair's story will unfold.

The DLC will also include a handful of new combat mechanics, including the ability to pit clickers and human enemies against each other in order to succeed in battle. Naughty Dog lead game designer Jacob Minkoff notes in the video that the team wanted to achieve a "narrative density" for Left Behind that was similar to that in The Last of Us.

Left Behind will be available for PlayStation 3 on Feb. 14.
