Cliff Bleszinski says he won't work on the new Gears of War

Former Gears of War design director Cliff Bleszinski took to his blog today to say that he won't be working on any new Gears of War games from Black Tusk Studios and Microsoft.

Microsoft announced this morning that it acquired the Gears of War franchise from Epic Games and that series producer Rod Fergusson would return to Microsoft to oversee the series. Bleszinski departed Epic in October 2012.

Bleszinski said that he learned of the sale last week when Microsoft Studios Corporate Vice President Phil Spencer called to give him the heads up. After it become public, he said he was inundated "emails, tweets, direct messages and smoke signals" about his possible involvement.

"I'm not going to move to Vancouver and work on it," Bleszinski wrote.

"I'm not going to consult on it. My headspace is in the future now, not the past. I have come to realize that until you give people something new to focus on they will obsess about the past. (good problem to have!)"

Full disclosure: Cliff Bleszinski's brother, Tyler Bleszinski, is the founder of Polygon sister site and Vox Media progenitor SB Nation.
