GDC goes retro with Zork postmortem session

Veteran game designer Dave Lebling will appear at this year's GDC offering a look at the lessons learned throughout the development of classic text adventure Zork.

The hour-long postmortem session covers the creation of the mainframe and microcomputer versions of Zork, the challenges of creating complex text parser coding and the glory days of do-it-yourself publishing.

Zork was released in the late 1970s by developers Lebling, Marc Blank, Bruce Daniels and Tim Aderson. The game and its subsequent sequels would later help to establish video games as a storytelling medium.

GDC 2014 takes place at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, California from March 17 to March 21.
