Apple's App Store raked in $10 billion in 2013

More than $10 billion was spent on Apple's App Store in 2013, with $1 billion being spent in December alone, Apple announced today.

While the company did not provide breakdowns of what kinds of apps customers spent the most money on, it did reveal that three billion apps were downloaded in December 2013, making it the most successful month in the App Store's history.

Some of the most popular games on the App Store in 2013 were Candy Crush Saga, Puzzles and Dragons, Minecraft, QuizUp and Clumsy Ninja. Outside of gaming, apps like Ellen DeGeneres' Heads Up and Kevin Ng's Impossible Road were rated as hits of the year.

Apple announced that its developers have now earned $15 billion on the App Store.
