Minecraft: Pocket Edition on its way to Windows Phone [Correction]

Owen S. Good is a longtime veteran of video games writing, well known for his coverage of sports and racing games.

Well, that sure didn't take long. Not one month after being bought up for $2.5 billion by Microsoft, Mojang says a version of Minecraft: Pocket Edition has been announced for the Windows Phone.

Jens Bergensten the game's lead developer, and Tommaso Checchi, who works on the Pocket Edition team, confirmed the game's development on Twitter yesterday.

[Correction] An earlier version of this post mistook Jens Bergensten's name. He never deleted his tweet, either. We had a busted link. I apologize for the implication.

Bergensten said the port is in working order but "there's still much to do before any release," and didn't give a date for one. Minecraft: Pocket Edition released for Android and iOS mobile devices in 2011. Yesterday, Mojang announced that Minecraft PS Vita Edition will launch on Oct. 14.
