Destiny's UI gets an impressive overhaul from fans

Reddit's board for Destiny has become a focal point for those looking for the latest loot cave. It's also been a place where many fans have put their ideas for changes and improvements. One Redditor who goes by the handle anrock1 has actually put in the time to mock up some modifications to the user interface. He even has a few suggestions on how he would improve gameplay.

One odd quirk of Destiny is the fact that players that don't know one another can't easily communicate with each other. You can wave and you can dance, but you can't really ever just say to the person next to you, "Hi there. Would you like to play some Destiny with me?" But what if Bungie took a page from the MMO genre and let players toss a flag over their heads, indicating they were looking for a group to play with?

Simple enough. Alright, what about the in game lore? Grimoire cards are full of information, but they exist only on the companion Destiny app or at the Bungie website. You know what, there's plenty of room atop the existing menu system. What if we put them in there?

Now we're getting somewhere. What if the navigation menu helped you keep tabs on your bounties? That would look pretty cool.

Here's where anrock1 really gets going. He's playing with a PlayStation 3 and that's providing some challenges for him. Getting to the menus is a chore with his console, and doing something as simple as synthesizing more ammunition takes him away from the play experience. So, he found somewhere to put the option on the HUD that keeps him playing.

Finally, for all the plaudits that have been laid at the feet of Destiny's menu system it's still a pain to change your primary weapon. There's a time for a tack driver and time for a firehose, so wouldn't it be nice if you could move from your scout rifle to your auto rifle on the fly? Behold.
