Metallica will perform the closing concert of BlizzCon 2014

Heavy metal band Metallica will close Blizzard Entertainment's upcoming community event, BlizzCon 2014, with a concert to be held live in the Anaheim convention center and broadcast to BlizzCon Virtual Ticket holders, the company announced today.

Although convention tickets are sold out, those interested can purchase a virtual ticket for $39.99. With a virtual ticket, buyers have live online coverage to panels, interviews and more. Blizzard co-founder and CEO Mike Morhaime said the company is "thrilled" to have the band appear at the convention.

"After two full days of epic gaming and intense eSports action, an earth-shaking concert is the perfect sendoff for everyone at the show and watching from home," Morhaime said.

Past performances have included bands such as the Foo Fighters, Ozzy Osbourne, Tenacious D and The Offspring.

BlizzCon will take place in Anaheim, Calif., from Nov. 7-8. During the event last year, Blizzard announced the newest expansion for World of Warcraftunveiled Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft for iPhone and Android, and revealed details on the Warcraft movie.
