Original 'Star Wars' trilogy's on-screen body count is alarmingly high

Fans of the beloved Star Wars films have watched billions of people die over the years, according to a video from Digg featuring a total on-screen death count from A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

"The original Star Wars movies are a non-violent and kid-friendly, right?" the video's description reads. "Not really any blood or gore to speak of. But once you start totaling up the deaths of pilots, capital ships and whole planets, it becomes apparent that one of our most beloved film trilogies contains the equivalent of several genocides."

The death toll, which estimates numbers for Alderaan, ships and more based on info from starwars.wikia.com, soars pretty quickly. Check out the full montage (set to the cheery tune of Girl Talk's "Play Your Part Pt. 1") in the video above.
