Reddit, which has long promoted itself as the front page of the internet, has branched out into crowdfunding. Dubbed "redditmade," the service will help redditors fund projects fueled by community interest.
The announcement post, submitted on the moderators forum, called Redditmade "a new place to turn the best designs and products by the community into reality." The service is now in open beta.
One of the stated goals of the project is to create stronger connections among Reddit users, and accordingly one of the early leaders is a t-shirt designed for members of the Reddit Black forum, a dedicated Call of Duty community.
"Reddit Black is made up of the most talented Call of Duty players that reddit can offer," says the brief campaign notice posted by user DevmasterJ. "Last year we managed to reach the top of the leaderboards and hit #1 in the world. This shirt outlines our true 'tryhard' nature and shows the world just how sweaty we can be."

The t-shirt design features a stylized depiction of a heavily modified Xbox 360 controller wrapped in what appears to be an N-Control Avenger.
The bulk of the projects on Redditmade are, at this time, t-shirts. But there's a smattering of other physical items as well, including a pair of headphones and a Reddit lapel pin.
The Verge notes that Redditmade will only be able to pay out to U.S. bank accounts in the short term. Reddit has promised to share more information with the public tomorrow.
