Barcade, the perfect portmanteau for two beloved pastimes — drinking beer and playing arcade games — is expanding to a second location in Manhattan next week with a unique focus: games of the 1990s, reports DNA Info.
"What'll be very different about this location is that we'll have mostly '90s games, where usually, the '80s is more of our focus," co-owner Paul Kermizian told DNA Info. That includes early-'90s classics like Street Fighter 2, later hits such as Rampage World Tour and oddities like Michael Jackson's Moonwalker.
Barcade announced its plans for a location on St. Mark's Place in the East Village earlier this year. This Barcade will serve pub food, like the one that opened in Chelsea this past June, along with 24 craft beers on tap and wine. However, it won't offer hard liquor: The owners decided against it in an effort to assuage the concerns of neighborhood residents. The 2,200-square-foot space was previously home to a Kim's Video.
Barcade St. Mark's is located at 6 St. Mark's Place, just east of Third Avenue. It will open Oct. 8. For more on Barcade, which also has establishments in Chelsea, Manhattan; Williamsburg, Brooklyn (photo above); Jersey City, New Jersey; and Philadelphia, check out our feature on Kermizian.
