Gearbox hit with bomb threat says boss Randy Pitchford (updated)

Update: Polygon reached out to the Plano Police Department and learned that the threat was not specifically targeted at Gearbox.

Randy Pitchford, head of developer Gearbox Software, tweeted a series of messages tonight, about a bomb threat at the company's offices.

"Someone is out of control!" he tweeted. "Bomb disposal unit called to Gearbox HQ parking lot to deal with car bomb threat."

He later said police in Plano, Texas, had given the all-clear, following use of a bomb-control robot. Pitchford was not allowed to return to his car during the police operation. He said that he had not called in a report of any threat to police. A Gearbox employee told Polygon that the company shares its office building with other businesses.

Gearbox is best known for the Borderlands series of games.

A games company exec and a YouTuber were recently hit by hoax attack threats. It's not clear at present what was behind this Gearbox situation. Polygon will update as we gather more information.
