Sonic Boom cartoon debuts Nov. 8 on Cartoon Network

Sonic Boom is a game coming to the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS on Nov. 11. It's also a cartoon series debuting on Cartoon Network on Nov. 8, Sega announced this week.

The trailer above gives Sonic fans an idea of what the show's all about. Canonically, the stories of Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric (Wii U) and Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal (3DS) will precede what takes place in the cartoon, though Sonic Boom will borrow some elements, such as Sonic's redesign, from the video games. It's part of a strategy that, along with a line of toys from Tomy, Sega is rolling out to reinvigorate its 23-year-old star.

"Sonic Boom provides an exciting mix of comedy and action," said a news release, "with each episode beginning with a small character-driven storyline that explodes into an epic tale of protecting the world, battling robot enemies, and more."

Main characters other than Sonic will include his old pals Tails, Knuckles and Amy Rose, and introduce a newcomer named Sticks.

The cartoon will premiere in France on Canal J on Nov. 19. In the spring it will launch on the French children's network Gulli and in the Middle East, with other territories to follow.
