Dark Souls 2 conquered with a guitar controller, a Wii Remote is up next

Michael McWhertor is a journalist with more than 17 years of experience covering video games, technology, movies, TV, and entertainment.

The Dark Souls player who bested From Software's role-playing game using nothing but a Rock Band guitar controller made good on his pledge to strum his way through the second game. Yes, now Dark Souls 2 has been beaten with a guitar.

Benjamin "Bearzly" Gwin spent just over nine hours playing the Windows PC version of Dark Souls 2, beating all of the game's bosses and its three downloadable add-ons with his custom guitar controller mapping. Two of the most challenging fights during his play-through, he said, were (unsurprisingly) Darklurker and the Ancient Dragon. Once again, falling off platforms appears to have been a major contributor to his 92 deaths.

Gwin posted some highlights of his guitar controller play-through of Dark Souls 2 to his Twitch channel, including some player-versus-player battles that must now be very embarrassing for the losing party. His white-knuckle guitar-controlled battle against Darklurker is embedded below.

His next Dark Souls-related challenge, Gwin says, is figuring out how to beat the game using only a Wii Remote controller.
