Evolve's DLC maps will be free, studio promises

All downloadable maps for the multiplayer-only Evolve will be made free of charge to all players, developer Turtle Rock Studios told IGN yesterday.

Phil Robb, the game's creative director, said the team made the decision because it didn't want to break up the game's community. "We never want anyone to get booted off of a server because they haven't bought something," he said in a video interview with IGN.

There will be premium DLC for Evolve post-release, such as new monsters or new hunters. However, those who don't purchase that DLC still will be able to play alongside those new characters in multiplayer, Robb said.

Evolve is launching Feb. 10 for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. The game recently completed a closed alpha test on all three platforms to guide the final stages of its development.
