Limbo, the acclaimed puzzle platformer that launched four years ago on Xbox Live Arcade, is coming to Xbox One, and day-one buyers of the console will get it for free, according to a message being sent to users.
Xbox One early adopters get Limbo for free, says message

“Thanks for being an Xbox One early adopter,” says the message, received in the Xbox One user’s dashboard. “To celebrate Year One, we’re giving you Limbo when it’s released. Stay tuned, your free code will arrive here.”
Today is the one-year anniversary of the launch of Xbox One. Earlier this week, Xbox’s Major Nelson announced a slew of gifts for all Xbox One users, while notifying Day One adopters that they’d be receiving a celebratory anniversary email — if they had opted in to receive marketing emails from Xbox. The email outlines everything the user accomplished on Xbox One since last November.
Beginning yesterday, all users (not just those who bought the console day one) will receive:
- A Year One Gamer Picture
- New Xbox One backgrounds: A special Year One background as well as an exclusive Day One background for those who unlocked the Day One achievement
- A Year One background image
- A free rental of Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn
- A free rental of Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods movie and a sampler pack of Dragon Ball Z TV episodes (U.S. and Canada only)
Further, Major Nelson listed a bunch of goodies, both in-game and real-world, that users would be selected to receive at random, ranging from a pinball table in Pinball FX2 all the way to console bundles with Sunset Overdrive or Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.
Nothing in this week’s announcement mentioned Limbo, however. In this thread on NeoGAF, users reported receiving the notification regarding Limbo; another pointed out it was rated in South Korea for Xbox One, indicating it may be on the way.
