Batman: Arkham Knight's new takedown brings the pain in gameplay video

Batman has some impressive new battle tools and techniques at his disposal in Batman: Arkham Knight, as you can see in a new gameplay video released today by publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

In the three-and-a-half-minute clip, Batman "infiltrates" the Ace Chemicals plant, although that's not really the right word for it — Batman and the Batmobile basically kick down the door of the facility as he wages a one-man assault on the plant. It seems that Scarecrow has taken control of Ace Chemicals with a veritable army put together by the shadowy Arkham Knight, surely for some nefarious purposes amid a grander plan. Batman's going in to confront Scarecrow and rescue a few imprisoned Ace Chemicals employees.

Here we can see how Batman: Arkham Knight integrates the Batmobile into gameplay, such as creating a makeshift entrance to Ace Chemicals, taking down some guards, launching Batman high into the air or transporting civilians to safety. We also get a look at one of Batman's new combat skills, the Fear Takedown, which seems to be — in keeping with the theme of the video — much more aggressive than stealthy. And Batman learns what little there is to know about the Arkham Knight. Throughout the video, there are glimpses of the wider world of Arkham Knight, and at just how much there is going on in it.

This is the first of three gameplay videos showing off Batman's visit to Ace Chemicals. The second will go live Dec. 1 at 9 a.m. PT, while the third will be shown Dec. 6 during Sony's keynote presentation at PlayStation Experience.

Batman: Arkham Knight is in development at Rocksteady Studios on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. It was scheduled to be released this fall, but Warner Bros. Interactive said in June that it had delayed the open-world action title to 2015, and announced in September that the game will be available June 2. For more, check out our preview from E3.
