Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare's futuristic take on zombies will arrive in January, Activision and developer Sledgehammer Games confirmed alongside a teaser trailer for the new mode. Dubbed Exo Zombies, the new cooperative multiplayer mode outfits the undead with Advanced Warfare's exoskeletons to make the shambling hordes deadlier than ever.
"As things were wrapping up around launch, we started playing around with the idea of what happens when zombies were thrown into the mix with exoskeleton gameplay," Sledgehammer says. "What we came up with is Exo Zombies — an entirely new breed of zombies and an entirely new co-op experience that is truly unique to Advanced Warfare."
The first chapter of Exo Zombies, Activision says, will hit alongside the game's first downloadable add-on pack, named Havoc. The first of four content packs, Havoc is slated to ship in January, debuting first on Xbox platforms. Add-ons Ascendance, Supremacy and Reckoning will round out Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare's season pass.
The trailer for Exo Zombies leaked last month, prior to Advance Warfare's launch on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Windows PC Xbox 360 and Xbox One. For more on the latest Call of Duty, read Polygon's review and our feature story on Sledgehammer's plans to reinvent the series.
