The next game in the Just Cause franchise could feature in-game microtransactions, according to alleged screenshots said to be taken from a debug build of the game on Xbox One.
An image first made available from Xbox-Underground.com shows what appears to be an upcoming game in the Just Cause universe, and also offers a glimpse at a menu system that allows users to make in-game purchases of vehicles and weapons using an unnamed currency. Additional images show series star Rico in third-person view, as well as a birds-eye view of an island. You can view those below.
Development of the upcoming Just Cause release has yet to be made official. Last year, developer Avalanche Studios hinted at the existence of the project in a video showing its team travelling to Costa Rica to research "complex environments for future games." The year before, the studio teased the development of the game in a holiday card featuring Rico Rodriguez, an air freshener decorated with weapons and the statement "Nearly there...."
Developer Avalanche Studios is also currently working on an upcoming Mad Max release for publisher Warner Bros., due out on Windows PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Polygon has reached out to the studio and publisher Square Enix for confirmation.
