When TT Games started work on the third game in its Lego Batman series, the team understood they had to get busy reading comics, watching cartoons and generally soaking up DC lore.
Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, due out on Nov. 11 on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PS Vita, Wii U, 3DS and Windows PC, features 150 DC Comics characters, including some that are pretty obscure and wacky. In this trailer released today, developers talk about the research involved.
"We thought let's go to town. Let's really go into these characters and bring these characters to life," said executive producer Phil Ringg. "We really wanted to dig into the wider world of everything DC, so we tried to get as much access to everything we could, so comic books, TV series, the films, cartoons, anything we could get our hands on."
In Lego Batman 3, the caped crusader joins forces with DC heroes to fight against Brainiac's dastardly plan to shrink the world and add it to his collection of miniatures. Some of the characters include well known standards like Superman and Wonder Woman, but there's also Polka-Dot Man, Condiment King and Mister Mxyzptlk.
"This is almost an A to Z of DC characters and we have got every character we can possibly get into this video game," added game director Arthur Parsons. "There are so many characters that we have found and actually fallen in love with. It's about us being fanboys and delivering a game that fanboys are going to love."
