New cutscene tying 'Halo: Nightfall' to Halo 2 leaks

A new cutscene, purportedly from the upcoming Halo 2: Anniversary, leaked out via a livestream yesterday, and it appears to connect the stories of Master Chief to Agent Locke, the protagonist of the live-action Halo: Nightfall series coming later this month. There are spoilers in this video.

The scene is said to have leaked when a user livestreaming play of Halo 2: Anniversary selected "The Heretic," which is the first campaign level of the original game. In it, Locke appears to be tasked with finding Chief, and is seeking help from the Covenant in finding him.

This tracks with an interview that Locke's actor, Mike Colter, gave last month in which it was suggested that Locke might be the main character of Halo 5. (343 Industries later clarified that Master Chief is, and remains, the series' protagonist.) Colter said Locke was on a "manhunt" for Chief, the reasons left unknown.

"Is he dead or alive?" Colter teased. "Because that's usually what a manhunt comes down to, dead or alive, but you won't know what the purpose of finding Master Chief is [right away]. Or what will happen if we do find him, what condition he will be in, and where he's at mentally. But I'm sure that'll be a plot twist in Halo 5."

Halo: The Master Chief Collection launches Nov. 11 on Xbox One. For more on how the anthology is handling the high-defintion re-release of Halos 1 through 4, see our preview from E3 2014.
