Ready for a free classic adventure game? GOG gives away Little Big Adventure

If you buy something from a Polygon link, Vox Media may earn a commission. See our ethics statement. is launching the French-language version of the site, and to celebrate it's giving away copies of Little Big Adventure, a classic adventure game from 1995, just for signing up to the service.

Today has already been a good day for free games, but this is a chance to play a classic that's often sadly underappreciated in the U.S.. It can also be darker than the visuals may suggest.

"There’s a scene at the beginning of the game where you, as the humanoid Twinsen, make your escape from the asylum where you're imprisoned. You kick one of the doctors in the face and, as he reels back, punch him viciously in the abdomen. He collapses to the floor at your feet, clutching his stomach in agony, until you kick him once more in the head and he dies," Edge's original review stated.

"You've got to do it because it's the only way to get the key to the exit, and if you'd let him go he'd have raised the alarm. But it looks gruesome."

It's also very, very French, which makes it a great choice for this. Don't expect to beat it anytime soon, either. "With well over 40 hours of playing time and something new apparently around every corner, it’s both huge and absorbing," Edge's review continued. "Rarely does a game arrive that combines technical innovation with diverse gameplay, humour and genuine personality. Little Big Adventure is quite unlike anything else."

If that's not French enough for you, you can pick up Quantic Dream's Indigo Prophecy on sale, as well as Another World, both classics in their own right.
