Tomb Raider mini-series is on the way

Charlie Hall is Polygon’s tabletop editor. In 10-plus years as a journalist & photographer, he has covered simulation, strategy, and spacefaring games, as well as public policy.

A Tomb Raider mini-series is in the works says Stephen Lunsford, the creator of the project. The actor, writer and director is best known as Matt from MTV's Teen Wolf. This isn't Lunsford's first time working on a Lara Croft-related project or with the developer Crystal Dynamics.

In an Instagram post published today, Lunsford says that the mini-series will be a prequel to the upcoming game, Rise of the Tomb Raider. Both the game and the movie already in development by MGM are based on the 2013 game Tomb Raider, a reboot that focuses on a younger Lara Croft coming into her own as an adventurer. You can read the Polygon review here.

Lunsford previously did promotional work for developer Crystal Dynamics, writing and directing a series of short ads like the one below.

This summer it was announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider would be a timed Microsoft exclusive, and yesterday that it would publish the game as well.
